Rouen is the historical capital city of Normandy, in northwestern France on the River Seine, and currently the capital of the Haute-Normandie (Upper Normandy) région. Once one of the largest and most prosperous cities of medieval Europe,

Rouen’s city center is compact and all sights can easily be seen by foot. There are city buses as well as a light rail line.
Attractions
Rouen is known for its Notre Dame cathedral, with its Tour de Beurre (butter tower), but other famous structures are also religious monuments: Church of Saint Maclou, Church of Saint Ouen and the Church of Jeanne d’Arc.

History and civilization
Rouen was founded by the Gauls who called it Ratumacos; the Romans later renamed it to Rotomagus. The city itself was founded on the right bank of the Seine during the reign of Augustus.

The city center is packed with restaurants, pubs, cafés and all the necessary venues for a lively atmosphere all day long. Nightlife is no less, as there are many nightclubs and discos all around Rouen.
